Sleep therapist (CBT-I)

Why is insomnia an increasing concern ?

Chronic insomnia affects  10% of the population , approximately 800 million people worldwide [1]. The problem has worsened since COVID-19. It is estimated that chronic insomnia costs 1% of the GDP in developed countries [2].

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), is a structured, evidence-based approach to treat insomnia, focusing on changing the thoughts and behaviors that cause or worsen sleep issues [3] . CBT-I is the officially recommended treatment by health organizations in both Europe and the USA [4].

What are the biggest challenges CBT-I professionals have ?

The large number of patients have forced therapists to modify CBT-I treatment due to  time constraints . On one hand, therapy time has been reduced. On the other hand, the delay between sessions has increased.

Moreover,  file management  is challenging. Therapy lasts several months and is provided with numerous documents to cover.  As a result, there is a gap in the patient journey that prevents doctors from effectively following up on their treatment.
